Joseph Marioni is one of the representative painters of the 1970's generation of "radical painters". His acrylic on linen "liquid light" paintings are layered with multiple hues (instead of just one, like with other "monochrome painters"). Marioni denies tags such as "monochrome" or "color field"; he reacts to the late modernist formalism by placing emphasis on the role of the viewer.
