Leon Golub

Leon Golub

A leading figure of the Chicago Imagist movement, Leon Golub made expressive, large-scale paintings that depict the brutality of war and other forms of state violence. His canvases, which are often viewed through the lens of protest, feature scenes from conflicts including the Vietnam War and the American paramilitary intervention in Latin America. Golub served as an army cartographer before obtaining his BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago
