The "Shapes" project is a large-scale project by Allan McCollum that seeks to produce unique two-dimensional shapes, "one for every person on the planet when the world population peaks in the middle of the twenty-first century". 31,000,000,000 different shapes are planned, but the artist himself is aware that he won't be able to finish the project in his lifetime and will leave the project for others to finish. The first batch of prints, consisting of 7056 shapes, was started in 2005 and finished in 2006
