Travis Herberger’s paintings are inspired by the cityscapes around him. He most often uses watercolors as his painting medium. Other than that, he also uses acrylics, oil paints, and watercolor pencils. Herberger paints with watercolors because they are easy to transport and store. He also likes them because of their affordability and their ability to get along with a wide range of other art supplies. When it comes to painting techniques, Travis Herberger uses the Impressionist techniques learned while studying art at Southeastern Louisiana University. He also applies the techniques of line, color, and texture when painting his artworks. Generally, he paints in layers. The top layer is usually lighter in color and the bottom layer is usually darker in color. This helps create a more realistic look for his paintings. Herberger’s favorite watercolor texture is the “stipple” texture. This can be created by using different sizes of watercolor brushes, and it creates small, random dots of color on a surface.
