Sketched and completed on location in January at SunYatSen University Guangzhou. Many people added to the work. Three paintings of other Red Brick buildings were completed here.
In the sketch is Swasey Hall and the inscription at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen university reads as follows; "Please study extensively; enquire accurately; reflect carefully; discriminate clearly; practice honestly."

Swasey hall was constructed with a donation of $25,000 from a Mr. Swayze a noted astronomic instrument manufacturer and president of the Swayze corporation in Cleveland Ohio. The construction began in 1915 and was completed in February 1917 with a capacity to hold 800 people and serving as an auditorium in June of every year for the graduation ceremony.
