Eli Mirlis' responsibilities at RegalCare

Eli Mirlis' responsibilities include working with accounting and payroll software to enable budgets and expense reports for their nursing homes as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. Aside from monitoring and keeping track of donations to the nursing home facilities, he also keeps track of monetary contributions. The other responsibility of Eli Mirlis is to determine the budget that is available and how those funds should be spent to maximize patient care and facilities.

As a CEO of Regal Care, Eli Mirlis often presents to a board proposed projects or improvements for which he believes funds need to be allocated, as well as where those funds will originate. The healthcare management professionals in Regal Care facilities also serve as the biggest agents of change. In addition to launching and executing protocol in accordance with federal and state laws, he will come up with solutions to facility problems or compliance violations.

Eli Mirlis’ Beginnings in the Skilled Nursing Profession

After graduating from college, Eli Mirlis sought a job with financial security, so he became a nursing home administrator. Initially, he worked as an assistant administrator, then as an owner-operator. Eli Mirlis began working in the field in 2009.

Working in the Industry

Each time Eli Mirlis thought he'd witnessed the worst thing in the skilled nursing arena, something else happened. In addition to Hurricane Irene, Mr. Mirlis also experienced Hurricane Sandy. He evacuated a New Jersey facility. Suddenly, COVID-19 struck and he realized evacuating 120 patients would be the toughest thing he had ever had to do. The worst got worse just when they thought it couldn't get worse. The experience was definitely memorable. Everybody is still learning and changing, and the process is still ongoing.

Since Eli Mirlis' homes are mostly in Connecticut, they shut down visits before the state and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) imposed lockdowns. Thus, Eli believes he prevented the incident from occurring, thus saving lives.

Eli Mirlis Future Leader

Eli Mirlis was named a 2020 Future Leader by Skilled Nursing News in 2020.  As part of the program, up-and-coming industry members shaping the future of the senior housing, skilled nursing, home health, and hospice industries are recognized.

Future Leaders are nominated by their peers. Our ideal candidate will be a high-performing employee under the age of 40, an advocate for seniors and their caregivers, and a hard worker.

The Future of Skilled Nursing

From certified nursing assistants to dietary housekeeping, Eli Mirlis hopes the state surveyors and CMS will be better able to appreciate the work performed by SNFs so they will realize how difficult the job is and how much they care – obviously for many patients, a SNF is their long-term home. They try to keep everyone safe, healthy, and get them back home as soon as possible.
