Davyd Chychkan

Давид Чичкан

Davyd Chychkan is an anarchist and artist, author of objects and installations. He calls himself a draftsman. He was born in Kyiv in 1986 to the family of artists Tetyana Illyakhova and Ilya Chychkan.

Davyd started his artistic practice in the early 2000s. He is the author of a series of simple political posters, intended not for galleries, but for street walls, fences, entrances, and the space of the social network on the Internet. He believes that text is the best tool to convey an idea. The text plays an essential role in his visual practice.

In 2017, Chychkan's personal exhibition "Lost Opportunity" dedicated to Maidan, the phenomenon of de-communization and war in Eastern Ukraine, was vandalized. This exhibition, destroyed on the third day of work, was one of the most direct and uncompromising comments on political topics in the biography of the artist himself and in Ukrainian art of that time.
