John Latham (1761–1843) was a hard-working, conscientious and religious man, of uncertain health, who did great service to the Royal College of Physicians. He settled in London where he obtained a large and lucrative practice through his hard work. This led him to become exhausted with ill health and he spent a period in the countryside to recuperate, before returning to London to set up a more moderate practice in Harley Street.
