Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller was born in 1793 in Vienna/Austria.
He was the only child of Georg Waldmüller. At the age of 14 he left his family to attend the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna against his mother's wishes.
Soon he became interested in nature and started painting landscapes.
From 1825 on Waldmüller travelled to Italy regularly and found inspiration in the Italian landscapes.
Despite growing acceptance of his paintings in Austria and abroad his financial conditions were rather bad.
He died in 1865 in Hinterbrühl not far from Vienna.
